College Transition

“What else do I do besides graduate hit the nail right on the head! I was a hockey play on Scholarship and I sustained a career ending injury. This ended my aspirations to play in the NHL. This process (Walkabout) gave me the confidence to realize a new goal working towards a degree in Natural Sciences and pursue a career in Solar Energy.”

Retirement Transition

“Transitions from work due to downsizing has become an annual activity to meet budgetary requirements. Unfortunately, I was a casualty of the downsizing. At 62 I was concerned about my employability and earn the salary I was use to receiving annually as a Director. This forced me to sit down with my accountant and after several months of financial analysis I realized I could retire! The 401k’s , Annuities , Savings, realty income and 2 Pensions would make ends meet. My wife had already retired so we would both be on fixed incomes. Well, using the WALKABOUT and the Consulting Services we both set out our desired outcomes that focused on Health, Financial stability, Grandchildren, Skiing, Sailing and public service. Now 5 years later we our realizing we made a great transition and a great live for both of us!”

Career Transition

“As a Marketing Manager for a food based company I found an opportunity to create a Global Marketing Managers position with a different food based company. Using the WALKABOUT process “we” created a Global Marketing Position in a Company (they didn’t know they needed or would benefit from this role). Several months later I was employed in my new company as the Global Marketing Manager. My wife was able to continue with her dog business and we didn’t have to move from NH.”

College Transition

“As a Junior Business Major I was set with my career direction. What was constraining me was a family problem with one of my parents. As the PURPOSE of my Walkabout Plan I initiated an effort to deal with a family problem. It started one night as I was returning to college from a weekend. I told my parent in the car that I thought they had a problem that needed to be addresses. That parent got really upset with me and told me to mind my own business! The parent dropped me off without saying goodbye. I was devastated. The following Friday that parent was supposed to return to bring me back home for the weekend. We usually talk once or twice during the week and we hadn’t talked until Thursday night. On the conversation my parent said he wanted to talk about their problem on the way home. Now a month later we haven’t solved the problem but our relationship is great and we are on the right path.”

College Transition

“As a Senior Art Major, getting married and working in New York were my plans until I used this process (Walkabout) to realize and learn my spouse as a Senior Engineer Major was seeking his first job in Los Angeles. Thank goodness we recognized our differences and were able to realign both of our career goals”

Retirement Transition

“I was fairly confident that my transition to retirement would become a new chapter in my life as well as my spouses. We had no inkling as to the impact that our grandchildren (all 3 of them) would have on the 2 of us. The Walkabout guided me to include the Family Role and Citizen Role. I was focused more initially on part time employment or temporary employment. The purpose statement of my Walkabout plan changed 2 times during the first two weeks of turning on the Walkabout Plan. The satisfaction I achieved was a great balance of Family and Work that I wished I had applied prior to retiring.”

Career Transition

“As a Medical Doctor in the military I realized I wouldn’t be promoted. That means I would be exiting the military. I thought pursuing a role at the CDS (Center for Disease Control) was a great option. I learned that I was stalling completing work towards this outcome I was suppressing my English degree and my passion for writing. I wrote a few document related to medicine and the military besides operating as a doctor. Then I realized the hardest part was telling my mother is was more interested in writing than I was in medicine for the transition to civilian life.”

Career Transition

“Making a mid-career transition while having 2 children in college was initially fraught with anxiety and a sense of helplessness. This process (Walkabout) instilled confidence in me that I was more in control of my transition than trying to quickly jump to any available job. Within 3 months of completing my Walkabout plan I had transitioned to a job equivalent to my last job with a slight raise and closer to my home. However, the real learning came from replicating the Walkabout Process. I learned some new skills and a internalized planning process that I am now replicating. Lesson learned.”
